LGBTQ+ WEDDINGS

Thankfully the world has changed considerably since Craig and Nicholas had engaged me to be their micro wedding in the Abel Tasman (Civil Union) planner to create a special day for a small group of their closest peeps. When I started planning for them, it was NOT legal for LGBTQ+ couples to get married in New Zealand but by the time their day came around everything had changed. New Zealand become the 13th country to legalize same sex marriage and this change inspired me (by their request) to become a registered New Zealand celebrant.

Since then I have been involved in multiple same sex celebrations and love how the world has opened up embracing what should have never been such a taboo subject. I have seen changes from a businesses perspective too, when the NZ Same Sex marriage bill (law) was heavily being debated in 2012, I was disturbed how many other industry members were advising me not to openly support it, in fear of loosing current business, what ever that was meant to mean. I ignored them of course and even created my own LGBT rainbow logo, to show an un-spoken invitation to anyone with an alternative preference confidence that they would be welcomed with open arms.
