Quake, there’s a Wedding to Plan

My Story starts here, with a fairy tale adventure that could have been a disaster. I had been running our scenic boat charter for a few years, with my husband Jim and two boys Peter and Chris, taking on booking for micro celebration events in the Abel Tasman National Park and developing the planning of the whole event. After experiencing several screw ups from inexperienced planners or family members, I took over the reins. It takes some skill to pack a cake for a 20 minute bumpy boat ride for example.

On a beautiful sunny day while the country was in shock due to a catastrophic earthquake in Christchurch, I received a phone call from a very distraught lady asking for my help. Caitlin and her fiance David had been travelling with a handful of close family members to Christchurch to celebrate a well planned elopement. The dream had all been washed away with a few moments of earth movement and they were relocated while in flight to Nelson. Her words will never leave me “We are meant to get married tomorrow in Christchurch and have no idea what to do now” I calmly spoke to get some more information and very quickly assured her that all would be well. As you can imagine as soon as I put the phone down, I had my head in my hands saying “OMG, what have the heck have I gone and done?

I’ve always had a skill of thinking on my feet and working well under pressure (Its a planners middle name!) so I locked up my office and got to planning.

16 hours later, which included 6 hours sleep we were at the boat ramp, the boat was dressed to impress, a beautiful picnic packed away tightly, a small cake, quality china crockery and the photographer Anthony Turner (Snap Photography) their original photographer, who had traveled through the night to join us. Davids Father, a minister back home had already gone through the hoops to be allowed to officiate.

The weather could not have been more picture perfect and when Caitlin with her vintage dress and David, in his pail grey suite arrived, my breath was stolen just as theirs was to see us there to welcome them on board the boat. I could not have asked for a more beautiful couple and family to really pivot my career as a professional wedding planner off. The day is what dreams are made of and everything went as perfectly as it could have considering the disaster it started out from. The day came reluctantly to an end, with the sun dropping below the hills, leaving an easy sky and as we gathered all the items, Caitlin approached me, flung her arms around me and whispered “YOU ARE MY DREAM MAKER” The feeling was just so incredible, I never wanted it to end and my heart made up my mind, this is what I want to do again and again.

After planning our wedding in Christchurch from the USA we were devastated to be relocated to Nelson due the big earthquake. Totally lost about what to do next someone recommended we contact Terri Everett from Sealimousines.  We were able to arrange for Anthony Turner, our incredibly talented photographer to travel through the night to capture our day. We had no idea what to expect, but were blown away to find everything arranged, decoration, catering, flowers and exceptional service.  Our day exceeded expectations and considering Terri had only a few hours to pull it together, we could not be more thankful. She was our Dream Maker!
