The Ngarua Caves and Takaka Hill offer a historic series of limestone caves and range in the south of Abel Tasman National Park. The caves are located close to Takaka Hill's summit, adjacent to state highway 60 as it winds its way over the winding hill between Motueka and Upper Takaka township.
The black limestone outcrops overlook incredible vistas of the Tasman sea and Abel Tasman coast line on a clear day. The terrain is alpine with native bush and tussock grasses, all lending themselves to beautiful photo backdrops.
The caves themselves are privately owned but open to the public. There are historic walkways and old wooden steps adding to the character of your experience. Lights have been placed discreetly to give just enough light to make your way into these ancient corridors that open into glistening amphitheaters and cathedral type openings where stalagmites and stalactites with beautiful acoustics stand proud. This is a true old meets new scenario.
We book these events in the early evening with exclusivity to the cave for our couples and events. When you return to the topside, there will be a beautiful celebration picnic waiting that can be enjoyed at sunset, with further photo opportunities in this incredible location.
If a helicopter is included, you can enjoy a private scenic flight to the location with the option of a second landing first if you wish. (POA)
