An Unexpected Ending
This celebration was well before I ever considered being a Celebrant and I worked with a wonderful lady who called herself Angel, the Wedding Whisperer and she used our Sealimousines boat charter for weddings in the Abel Tasman National Park, so we collaborated and recommended each other.
On this occasion I was contacted by a mature man called Mike, who quickly introduced himself as a young minded chap who loved an adventure. Every now and then I make a connection with my clients, that go well beyound a customer friendship and I knew that this was going to be one of those times. Firstly it goes hand in hand that we will have something in common, we we’re both English for example.
His story facinated me, his son lived in Nelson NZ, not far from where I lived and he had a dream to visit him one day. Mike caught a bus to work each day and often read the paper while he waiting for his number to arrive. One day as he usually did he berried his head in the current affairs. There was an article about New Zealand. behind him stood a lady, he later learn’t was called Julie, who was reading the paper over his shoulder. A conversation ensued as Julie had visited New Zealand which sparked a common interest. They chatted until Julie’s bus arived and in haist she wrote her number down, saying something like, “if you would like to continue the conversation give me a ring” Mike soon got onto his own bus line and in many cases that would have been it. I can’t remember all the detail but the story basically continued when Mike decided after a few days that maybe it was worth trying for her number. Cutting a long story short they did meet up and had a 10 year relationship until they decided to make that visit Mike had longed for and he thought, well, while we are there lets get married?
Mike contacted me and he did all the organising with me. He wanted a quiet beach where just the two of them and his son John would be there and I organised our Sealimousine, Angel came with her friend Sandra, who was a photograher and we had the most intimate day, it felt like I was celebrating with old friends. There had been a storm the day before and the high tide washed lots of drift wood in. Angel wrote on one of the pieces of wood their names and wedding date and Mike & Julie pushed in back ionto the sea, I often where it ended up.
They returned back to the UK and Mike and I kept in contact. He wrote a wonderful review thanking us all for his wonderful day. Mike would often pop up on Facebook, reccomending us and singing our praises.
One morning I opened my email and was excited to see Mikes email until I read the content. I had wondered why I had heard less from him over the past months and this was the reason. He had terminal cancer and knew he would not have long to live. He was tiding up ends and wanted me to know. He thanked me for his wedding memory, saying the images had
